Children

Christian Education

Our goals for our children: Love God. Love other people. Love yourself.

Our children are a very important part of our ” church family”

here at First Congregational Church North Adams UCC.

We have Sunday School for School-Age Children.

Children are invited to join the adults in the sanctuary at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays for the first 15 minutes of worship. They listen to the organ and piano music, hear the pastor’s greeting, and join in singing a hymn . Pastor Carolyn then engages the children in a special time we call ” For the Young and Young at Heart.” Following this they are free to go to their classroom with their teachers.

Our “one room-classroom” for the elementary school ages uses the  Bible-based “Whole People of God” curriculum.   We follow the lessons and sermons in church for that Sunday and provide activities and crafts which are appropriate for the different age levels. Often the older kids help the younger ones, which works out well .

We have a nursery for Tots and Toddlers.

We have a well-equipped nursery for the little ones with plenty of safe and age-appropriate toys.  Short Bible lessons  and activities are available for older toddlers.

We have engaging discussions for our Junior-High School students.

Junior High kids have their own class during this time, where they can talk about issues that are important to them and their place in our ever-changing world.

If they wish, they are paired with an adult church member who, with the pastor, act as “mentors” to guide them through a confirmation process to become members of the church.

The First Congregational Church follows “Safe-Church” principles.

All staff are Cori-checked, and children are supervised at all times.
